Plug-in solar kits sold in the US, with their safety listings checked

None of the 8 plug-in solar kits sold in the US that we track has a whole-kit safety listing we could find in a lab’s directory yet. 2 are on Amazon US, both from PluggedSolar, and their UL 3700 claim is the maker’s own. The closest is the Mango Power S: its maker says Intertek certified it. Below: every kit, its real AC output, price, where it ships, and what we could confirm.

The Amazon links on this page are affiliate links: if you buy through one we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. It does not change which units are picked. How that works.

No picks yet. We will name a pick only when a lab lists the whole kit and we find that exact kit on Amazon US. We re-check Amazon every night and the labs each month.

Each row is a real product, read on the maker’s own page. “Size” gives the AC output when the maker states it. That is the number state laws cap, and it can be lower than the panels’ total. A kit has an Amazon button only when we find the maker’s exact kit on Amazon US, sold near the maker’s price, with no recall on file. A button is not a safety pick. Read the safety listing column first.

Not on the list, on purpose:

  • PluggedSolar 1,600 W kit: Its 1,600 W of panels is over the 1,200 W cap in most of the state laws we read.
  • PluggedSolar's older 800 W kit: Its maker page names UL 1741 for the inverter, not UL 3700, the standard several state laws name.
  • Unbranded 800 W to 1,200 W grid-tie microinverters on Amazon: They are bare inverters with no panels, and we could not confirm a US plug-in safety listing for any of them.

How we check a safety listing

Makers say “UL 3700 certified” freely. A real listing has a lab’s name and a file or certificate number you can look up. We try each kit in the labs’ public directories and sort what we find into one of these:

  • Whole kit listed in the lab's directory: We found the whole kit in the lab's own public directory (UL Product iQ, Intertek or CSA).
  • Maker says a lab certified it; not confirmed: The maker says a named lab certified it, but we could not find the listing in that lab's directory.
  • Maker says, not confirmed: The maker says it is certified but names no lab, and we found no listing.
  • Inverter only, not the whole kit: Only the inverter is certified. Several state laws, and California's, want the whole kit listed.
  • Not certified yet: The maker says, or the trade press reports, that certification is in progress.
  • No US listing: No US safety listing, usually because the product is not sold in the US.

UL 3700 is UL’s safety outline for plug-in solar. Maine, New Jersey and Vermont name it in their laws. California asks for the whole kit to be certified as a plug-in system, with a certified shut-off for outages. A certified inverter inside an uncertified kit does not meet that rule. In July 2026, Environment America said no whole kit had UL 3700 yet. See which kits could be legal in California and each state’s rule.

Don’t buy: bare grid-tie inverters with no US safety listing

Some sites’ “best plug-in solar kit” lists are bare inverters from Amazon with no US safety listing. They are not kits, and none of the state laws we read allows a device without a lab listing.

  • Y&H 600 W and 1,200 W grid-tie inverters (Amazon B09N8T2741 and B09N8X1Z71): The Amazon listing itself says: “The inverter is not UL1741 certified.” It lists only the European CE mark. It comes with a bare output cable, not a plug, and says “The AC output must be connected to the home grid.”
  • Aiwewin SMI-800W-US 800 W inverter (Amazon B0GKFD9Y3D): The listing names no US safety listing at all, and no plug. It is an inverter, not a kit.
  • AUECOOR 600 W grid-tie kit with a 1,000 W inverter (Amazon B0854F9L2R): The listing says “Certification:CE” only. CE is a European mark, not a US lab listing. No plug.

If you live in a state with a plug-in law, buy a kit with the listing your state names. If you want power in an outage, a portable power station with a solar panel is the safer buy: see power stations for home backup.

Questions people ask

Which plug-in solar kits are UL 3700 certified?

As of October 14, 2026, we found no whole kit in a lab’s own directory. Mango Power says Intertek certified its Mango Power S kit. PluggedSolar says its kits are UL 3700 certified but names no lab. Hoymiles and APsystems have certified inverters, which is not the same as a certified kit.

Is there a plug-in solar kit on Amazon?

Yes, 2 that we track, both from PluggedSolar. Their UL 3700 claim is the maker’s own; we found no lab listing. Amazon also sells bare grid-tie inverters that are not plug-in kits at all. See the warning on this page.

What size plug-in solar kit can I use?

Most state laws cap the kit at 1,200 W of output. Colorado allows 1,920 W, and Maine allows 420 W unless an electrician installs a dedicated circuit. The cap is on the inverter’s AC output, which can be lower than the panels’ total watts.

Do any plug-in solar kits have a battery?

A few. EcoFlow’s STREAM Ultra has a 1,920 Wh battery, and EcoFlow says it keeps essential appliances running in an outage. The kits without a battery shut off when the grid goes down.

How do I check a kit’s safety listing myself?

Ask the seller for the lab’s name and the file or certificate number for the whole kit. Then look it up in that lab’s public directory: UL Product iQ, Intertek’s directory, or CSA’s certified product listing.
