It starts most fridges, but an old or large one may be too hard to start. Our math gives about 10 hours. A tester ran an 18 cu ft fridge for 8 to 10 hours (Power Station Advisor). Will it start yours?
How long it runs each kind of fridge
A fridge does not draw power all the time. Its compressor runs, stops when the box is cold, and starts again later. So what matters is its average draw, not the watts on the label. A typical full-size fridge averages about 83 W. That is about 2,000 Wh a day.
| Fridge | Average draw | Hours on one charge |
|---|---|---|
| Full-size fridge, typical (our middle figure) 100–700 W while running, on 20%–50% of the time; the middle of that range | 83 W | about 10 h |
| Full-size fridge, new ENERGY STAR model 460 kWh a year on the yellow label: the middle of 2,923 certified models (median size 18 cu ft) | 53 W | about 17 h |
| Full-size fridge, old, in a hot kitchen, door opened often 700 W while running, on 50% of the time: the hard end of our range | 350 W | about 2.5 h |
| Mini fridge (compact, ENERGY STAR) 246 kWh a year on the label: the middle of 1,742 certified compact models (median 3.3 cu ft) | 28 W | about 31 h |
| Chest freezer, typical (our middle figure) 80–500 W while running, on 15%–45% of the time | 52 W | about 17 h |
| Chest freezer, ENERGY STAR 215 kWh a year, ENERGY STAR’s figure for a certified chest freezer | 25 W | about 35 h |
| Fridge and chest freezer together (both typical) 83 W + 52 W | 135 W | about 6.4 h |
How we get the hours. Hours = usable battery ÷ average draw. Usable battery is 85% of the 1,024 Wh on the label: 870 Wh. The other 15% covers the loss in turning battery power into 120 V household power, the cell cutoffs and cold weather (our method, the same on every page of this site). ENERGY STAR figures are label figures for new, efficient models in test conditions. Real use runs higher, which is why our typical figure is above them.
Will it start your fridge?
Two numbers decide it.
- Running watts: yes, easily. A fridge draws 100–700 W while the compressor runs. The DELTA 2 gives 1,800 W (EcoFlow manual).
- Starting surge: most fridges, not all. For a split second as the compressor starts, a fridge pulls 600–2,900 W. The DELTA 2’s peak is 2,700 W. So it may not start a hard-starting fridge: an older or larger one near the top of that range.
What happens if the surge is too big: the DELTA 2’s overload protection turns its AC outlets off instead of starting the compressor, and the fridge stays off. EcoFlow’s manual says it works again once you unplug the device that overloaded it and restart the unit (manual).
How to know before an outage: unplug the DELTA 2 from the wall first, so the fridge runs on its battery. (While the DELTA 2 charges from the wall, its outlets pass wall power straight through.) Plug the fridge in, wait for the compressor to kick on, and watch that it keeps running. Try it two or three times. If it starts every time, that is the best sign you can get before an outage. If your fridge is old or large, use a station with a higher peak. The DELTA 3 Classic has the same battery and a 3,600 W peak. For a full day on one charge, our refrigerator guide picks the EcoFlow DELTA 3 Ultra (3072Wh): a 7,200 W peak, and one charge runs a typical fridge about 31 hours.
A chest freezer is easier: it pulls up to 2,200 W to start, under the 2,700 W peak, so the DELTA 2 starts it. We have no starting figure for mini fridges, so test yours the same way.
Can it run a fridge and a freezer at the same time?
Yes, for about 6.4 hours with a typical fridge and a typical chest freezer. Running together they draw at most 1,200 W, under the 1,800 W limit.
The risk is the start. If both compressors start in the same second, their surges add up and can pass the 2,700 W peak. Plug in one, wait until its compressor is running, then plug in the other.
How to make it run longer
Add an extra battery
The DELTA 2 takes one EcoFlow extra battery (EcoFlow extra batteries page).
- DELTA 2 Max Extra Battery, 2,048 Wh. Together they hold 3,072 Wh (2,611 Wh usable). A typical fridge runs about 31 hours: more than a day. It costs $899 on Amazon (checked October 12, 2026).
- DELTA 2 Extra Battery, 1,024 Wh. Together they hold 2,048 Wh: a typical fridge runs about 21 hours. We did not find it sold on its own on Amazon.
The listing we matched to the bare 2,048 Wh pack, not a bundle.
Add solar panels
The DELTA 2 takes up to 500 W of solar at 11–60 V (EcoFlow manual). EcoFlow says a full solar recharge takes 3 to 6 hours (EcoFlow).
Solar slows the drain. It will not keep a typical fridge going on its own. That fridge uses about 2,000 Wh a day, about 2.3 full charges of the DELTA 2. At EcoFlow’s 3 to 6 hours a charge, that takes about 7 to 14 hours of strong sun a day. A new ENERGY STAR fridge (about 1,300 Wh a day) needs about 4 to 9 hours. The panels and the MC4-to-XT60 cable are sold separately.
Use less
Keep the doors shut. Each opening lets cold air out, and the compressor runs longer to replace it. A full freezer holds its cold longer than an empty one. Set the fridge no colder than you need.
Recharge when you can
From a wall outlet the DELTA 2 charges at up to 1,200 W: 80% in 50 minutes (EcoFlow). While it charges from the wall, the fridge runs from the wall, not the battery.
What goes wrong, and why
- The fridge will not start. Its starting surge is above the 2,700 W peak. Most likely with an older or larger fridge. Test it before you need it.
- The battery runs out much sooner than 10 hours. A hot kitchen and a door opened often keep the compressor running up to half the time. At the hard end of our range that is 6.7 hours.
- Both appliances shut off at once. A fridge and a freezer started in the same second can pass the peak. Start them one at a time.
- The fridge is wired in, not plugged in. Then it needs a transfer switch or inlet fitted by an electrician. How a station connects to a house. Never plug a station into a wall outlet to feed the house: it can kill a line worker.
Expect fan noise while the compressor runs: PCWorld found the DELTA 2’s fans start above about 120 W (PCWorld review).
Can you still buy a DELTA 2?
Not on Amazon as itself. On October 7, 2026 the DELTA 2’s Amazon listing (ASIN B0B9XB57XM) opened the DELTA 3 page instead, and a search found no DELTA 2 listing. So we show no DELTA 2 price.
The EcoFlow DELTA 3 Classic (1024Wh) is the closest match: the same 1,024 Wh battery and 1,800 W output, with a 3,600 W peak against the DELTA 2’s 2,700 W. It runs a fridge just as long, about 10 hours, and it starts even a hard-starting one. It cost $499 on Amazon on October 12, 2026. EcoFlow lists no extra battery for it. For more than a day, see the bigger units in our refrigerator guide.
Questions people ask
How long will an EcoFlow DELTA 2 run a refrigerator?
About 10 hours for a typical full-size fridge on one charge, from 870 usable watt-hours and an average draw of about 83 W. A tester ran an 18 cu ft fridge for 8 to 10 hours. An old fridge in a hot kitchen can cut it to 6.7 hours; a new ENERGY STAR fridge runs about 17 hours.
Can the EcoFlow DELTA 2 run a fridge and a freezer at the same time?
Yes, for about 6.4 hours with a typical fridge and a typical chest freezer. Together they draw at most 1,200 W, under its 1,800 W limit. Start them one at a time: two compressors starting together can pass its 2,700 W peak.
Can the EcoFlow DELTA 2 run a refrigerator with solar?
Solar stretches the battery but will not keep a typical fridge going on its own. The DELTA 2 takes up to 500 W of solar. A typical fridge uses about 2,000 Wh a day, and replacing that takes about 7 to 14 hours of strong sun a day, at EcoFlow's 3 to 6 hours per full charge.
Will the DELTA 2 start my refrigerator's compressor?
Most likely. A fridge pulls 600 to 2,900 W for a split second as it starts, and the DELTA 2 peaks at 2,700 W. An older or larger fridge near the top of that range may not start. Test it on battery before an outage.
Can the EcoFlow DELTA 2 run a mini fridge?
Yes. A compact ENERGY STAR fridge averages about 28 W, so one charge runs it about 31 hours.
How do I make the DELTA 2 run a fridge longer?
Add the 2,048 Wh DELTA 2 Max Extra Battery: a typical fridge then runs about 31 hours. Keep the doors shut, and recharge from the wall or solar when you can.
